I am currently attending cosmetology school and am moving out to LA next year and am looking into salons already so I can get my resume out there and I have also been looking at Ken Paves salon but I am afraid to contact them because I am only 18 right now but by the time I get out there I will be 19 and I am going to a very very good school called Aveda and I just would like to have some suggestions or success stories....please only real, respectful answers Thanks so muchHow can I get my resume out there to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood salons?
If you are looking to get into a high-end salon you will most likely have to do an apprenticeship before getting to take clients on your own. With you going to an Aveda school, I would suggest mailing your resume to certified Aveda salons, always including a detailed cover letter that outlines your skills and achievements.
I am an esthetician and worked for 2 years at a spa in Beverly Hills and just loved it- I have since moved away, but it was a wonderful experience and I have to say, I took such pride in handing out my business card that had that 90210 zip code on it! Another great salon in Beverly Hills is Christophe, it is on Beverly Drive and is right next door to the spa I worked at. Their stylists went through a vigorous training process, but it was well worth it in the end, they were all fantastic stylists who had a loyal clientele.
Don't get discouraged if you have to do more training at whatever salon you end up working at- cosmetology school prepares you for state board, and you do the majority of your learning when you start working- I have been in the beauty business for 10 years and am still learning!
Best of luck to you!How can I get my resume out there to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood salons?
Best is to schedule a general interview. Ken Paves most likely gets about 20 resumes a day it is best to schedule a general interview and show them your resume :)
Fax them a copy or bring it to them yourself.
