Is it customary to tip the owner of a hair salon? ?

My friend just opened up her own hair salon, and I am wondering if it is customary to tip the owner when you get a hair cut. I have heard many people say you dont have too, but it still feels weird to not tip.Is it customary to tip the owner of a hair salon? ?
if the owner is the one styling your hair, then yes, you should tip.... who ever gave you a service deserves a tip....Is it customary to tip the owner of a hair salon? ?
I'm the owner of a salon, and it's the tips that I live off from. There is really no money coming in that makes us a real profit. There's the bills, overhead, products and upkeep on the salon. If you feel you should, then do it. I appreciate everyone of my clients and if they feel that I've done a great job , they do it automatically
I don't tip the owner.. I tip my hair stylist though... not a great amount of money... but something to show appreciation is nice.

Without going to the salon, how do you thin out your hair a little?

my hair is wayyyyyyyyy too thick so i just want it thinner a little bit. is there any way of doing this at home like with a shampoo or something. i know that you can get your hair cut with a blade at the salon but right now im growing out my hair. i know a lot of people want body to there hair but i just have too much for the way i do my hair.Without going to the salon, how do you thin out your hair a little?
Go to your local drug store, beauty supply store, or even walmart.. And get yourself a pair of thinning sheers. Separate your hair in to 4 equal sections. (more if needed) and twist one section at a time and make 3-4 cuts down the hair. Make sure not to push to hard on the scissors when cutting.. :)) good luck!

    Help me also?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>Without going to the salon, how do you thin out your hair a little?
I wouldn't do it. A salon would charge little for thinning. Explain that is all you want. Depending on texture, and other things, is how we decide where to thin, how far from the scalp to thin, etc....it's easy for someone to mess it up. You could always try a beauty college if cost is the issue.
dont do it yourself.you really should let a professional do it.

i have super thick wavy/curly hair too and i hate thinning shears!when my hair grows out it always leaves a straight line where it was cut. i like getting my hair razor cut it grows out very well

    edit- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
I agree with the thinning shears, they're basically a weird looking pair of scissors. Also if you do break down and go to the salon Don't get your hair layered, the last time I went in they told me it adds body.

Word of mouth is your best advertisment.

Go to special events, like bridal shows, women's trade shows, home shows, things like that which are mostly at convention centers and start giving free facials and manicures away to people who are really interested. Give brochures and business cards away to those who might be interested.

If they come, great, and ask them to help promote you to their friends. Offer great packages to these first clients as incentives and keep getting your name out there, that's when people come.
Business cards, pass them out wherever you go. You can create them yourself on your computer.
i went through the same thing only difference was that there was a shop on every corner so it was too much competition...what you can do is always have your nails done and then when some complements you on them that's one way you can strick up a conversation....second have plenty of business cards on you at all times so whenever you go out to eat or to another establishment you can leave your card on the table....i usually leave a couple on the resturant table as well in the womens bathroom....third is word of mouth(i know this may sound crazy but)you may need to do some freebies or discounts for your first time customers and then tell them that if they refer so many ppl then they will get a free service, product or discount when they come in again....hope this helps

  • Do you like having your HAIR WASHED at the Salon?

Does your hairdresser always shampoo your hair?Do you like having your HAIR WASHED at the Salon?
Getting your hair done at a salon is suppose to be a fun experience. To me the shampoo is my fav. part. They should always offer you a shampoo, if they don't, maybe you should consider going to someone else or asking them for one. At most places shampoo is included and feels wonderful!!Do you like having your HAIR WASHED at the Salon?
Yes I like it. I always ask the hairdresser to wash it after I get my hair cut too. This gets rid of all the little fine hair I have everywhere. This way I get it done twice. I always tip her very well.
    I love it!

I've had the same hair dresser for years and she's gentle with my scalp and massages it. The products she use make my hair soft and shiny for days. It actually makes me sleepy :)

Well I usually go to great clips, so wah no they dont. they just use a spray bottle when they cut my hair. :( but i love having it done
They should unless you are somewhere really cheap.
Yeah she does and I love it. Its like she's giving me a scalp massage or something lol
My hairdresser does not treat my scalp nicely. But she's cheap so I'm sticking with her!
yup i always pay extra for it but its worth it, they massage your scalp and your neck
yes! its very relaxing to me.
YES!!! unless they are soo rough and like scratch my scalp off lol

In a hair salon, who do you give the tips to?

The cahier or the hairdresser? In a hair salon, who do you give the tips to?
Hairdresser. In a hair salon, who do you give the tips to?
Either or. You can hand it to the stylist after he/she is done-just hand it to them and say thank you as you are leaving, or you can give it to the receptionist and they can give it to them. I work at a salon and all of the stylists have tip cups behind the desk and the clients usually just tell me to give this to so and so %26amp; I stick it in their cup.
THE PERSON WHO DOES YOUR HAIR ~THE HAIRSTYLIST~
i always give it to the person who works with the hair most places the hairdresser and the shampooer ae the same so tip the person who has the highest chance of accidently fuccing up your hair they care and cashiers may not always take the tip to the cutter so yeah and personally handing them the tip where they see your face helps them remember you and if you tip good then they will treat you better the more you go in
I always give it to the hairdresser
I am a receptionist in a hair salon. Most of the time people will give the tips to the sylists themselves. Its not wrong so to speak if you give it to the receptionist. Its just nice to give it to the stylist personally. And they appreciate it that way too.
You can give a tip to the cashier and ask them to give it to the hairdresser on your behalf. You might also want to tip the shampoo person.
The stylist, usually you give him or her 10% of the total
You give the hair tips and style preference to the hairdresser. the cashier cant do anything about your hair, and since yourr hairdressers the one actually styling it you tell them what you want done. to get even more specific bring in a pic to show your hairdresser what kind of cut you want. oh wait the tip for the cut sorri, but you also give that to your hairdresser since thats their personal earnings.
the person who cut ur hair duh?

What does it mean when someone goes to a salon to get their roots done?

thanks!!What does it mean when someone goes to a salon to get their roots done?
When someone goes to get their roots done it means they have had their hair dyed and their natural color is peeking through where the dye has grown out. http://z.about.com/d/beauty/1/5/l/G/hair鈥?/a> . see how the top has brunette [her old color] someone would go to the salon to get it back to the blonde at the top. THey re-dye the roots only. What does it mean when someone goes to a salon to get their roots done?
it probably means that they dont have their natural hair color...so when it comes out it starts from the roots ...so like if your natural hair color is blonde and you died it black..later your roots would go blonde...so they go get their roots done and all their hair is black...
It means that there hair is colored and it's starting to show because the hair is growing out. that's when you go to the salon and get the new hair dyed the same color.

Does JCPenny beauty salon do a great job at cutting hair and can white people do african american hair?

Okay, Im an african american female and have been wanting layers for a while but im a little cautious about who's in my hair. I usually go to Black owned salons but they havent really been giving me the works on what i want. JCPenny has a beauty salon but im kinda wondering, can someone white work with such coarse (African American) hair as mine? If so, that would be wonderful and save me time and money. Any suggestions?Does JCPenny beauty salon do a great job at cutting hair and can white people do african american hair?
    Hi there,

I have been a hairdresser for 16 years and for 5 years worked at JCPenney's and I have to tell you that they are very well trained when it comes to different styles and techiques. I think you would be safe going there, just be sure to ask for a ';master stylest'; and you should be in good shape. As for the part about white people able to work on African American hair, yes they can. Your type of hair is very course but can be very fragile to work with. If you want layers, make sure they cut your hair dry so you get a better effect. I hope this helps....................

PS. This is my friends log in and I saw this so I thought I would reply.

Claasy6Does JCPenny beauty salon do a great job at cutting hair and can white people do african american hair?
When people say that they've been 'trained' on black, they usually mean a mannequin or a model whose hair is somewhat straight. Ask your potential stylist - have you worked with black hair and, if you have, what kind of texture? From experience, I would do a lot of asking.

i guess you can go there! y not?
Well White People should help you and do you're hair and there shouldn't be any thing that says African american people can't get there hair cut. So i think you're fine for going to JCPenny
I went to beauty school and I am white. We were trained to work on african american hair as well as white people's hair. Most cosmetologist have training or they wouldn't be able to get their liscense. It might not be their expertice, so I would call and ask the salon if they have someone that can do your hair and explain to them you fears. I have been to JcPenny they do a pretty good job. But remember it's not the name that makes a good salon its the stylist. If you call and they don't have anyone to do it try McRae's or Regis salon or even Trade secrets.
Girl hair is hair to a certain extent almost tried them out myself but from experience ask them what they can or cant do. And you know what you want from them just ask them flat out ..how do you finish my hair (there IS a cost to drying and styling ..yea I know a lil strange). Get the full cost and if it sounds like they can you go for it. The products is not the issue it's the stlying at the end!
Hair is most definitely not just hair! I am a white woman with very curly thick hair.

I would not go to JCPenny if I were you, it is better to spend more and go less often. I went to JCP one time and they literally cut my hair shorter 4 inches on one side. You couldn't tell when it was dry because my hair is so curly but when it was wet and combed out it was 4 inches shorter, I measured it! I couldn't get my hair to do right the whole time I went to this salon!

I know white women can fix black hair because my sister had a friend she went to school that would only go to white women. She said they pulled a lot less and took more time with her. Just try a more expensive salon with a classier clientele, you will be glad and it will save you money in the end because you can go less!
well i seen a couple of shows on TV where white people did black people hair including layers and they did a good job,,,,,i believe when they go to beauty school they are trained to do both kinds of hair so im pretty sure they can hook you up w/some layers......ask around maybe if you see someone w/layers in their hair ask them who cut your hair and get the stylist name and number....i thinks its better to see what the stylist can do before letting them get into your hair....i just got my hair cut in layers and i didn't have a stylist to begin with i asked a around got good feedback and i got a cute layered cut....so ask around you'll be surprise

And what are the normal business hours at a tanning salon?? Are they open on holidays/weekends???

Thanks!!Is it hard to work at a tanning salon?
Its about average. I dont have experience ( I wish!) but i have lots of friends who do it %26amp; im pretty close with the girls my salon.

August isn't really busy at the salon I go to. A lot of people just go outside. Its way too hot to go in the beds. I live in a really humid area which makes it worse. If you live in a cooler place then you might get people. The fall gets really busy though!

The salon I tan at hours are-

    M-Thurs 8am-9pm

    friday %26amp; sat- 8-11

    sunday- 11-6

they have special holiday schedules. usually not open on thanksgiving day or christmas.

Also, they do airbrushing if you schedule it and will stay open later/earlier if you need it.

you just need to know about the beds %26amp; lotions. skin types.

then theres office like things you have to do- appointments if you take them, phones, making flyers.

you need to clean beds, which is kindof a work out. please be super sanitary! you need to wash towels for the customers. Is it hard to work at a tanning salon?
You may have to set appointments, answer the phone, greet people, wipe down the tanning beds/ clean the rooms, sell products (that's important), run the cash register. Can you do these things?

    Yes, they are usually open evenings and weekends - at least saturdays. Call the ones you are interested in and say ';Hi, what hours are you open?'; After they answer (have paper and pen to write the info down) say ';Thank you.';
im pretty sure it is i mean its an unusual job

In a salon it's on top, at home with the white sticks, it's usually under the nail...
on top.... but if you do it at home you should get the stickers that divide where the finger nail and the tip should be! =)
every salon is different, some places have white tips they glue on before putting on the acrylic, and others use clear long tips and after trimming them down and acrylic they paint on the white. i perfer white tips, its easier and faster. i've never seen anyone paint under the nail for the white tip.
    omg on top

Vegan Essentials has just put up a line of vegan hair dyes on their website. I have yet to try them, though. Manic Panic and Special Effects are also vegan, but they're only if you want technicolor hair.

J/A/S/O/N has color-enhancing shampoos that are good.
If you want funky colors Manic Panic is completely vegan. (:

Natural colors I'm not sure about though.

All of the vegan products have the little green V by them.

Here is the link to their hair hennas:

    http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/catzo鈥?/a>

I LOVE all of their stuff!
    Try Henna.

Its is made of leaves from teh henna shrub. Its entirely natural and safe to use.

Famous beauties such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra used Henna to enhance their hair coloring. Cleopatra also used Henna to color her lips and nails. Henna is an alternative to chemical tints which many believe are not healthy and are actually hazardous. The shade of Henna is reflected through your hair while enhancing your hair's natural color. It is also a conditioner.

Your cuticle is smoothed by the sealing action of Henna. This gives your hair a polished look. The hair is protected from the sun and air pollution. Regular use textures and adds shine. It may be applied every 4 to 6 weeks. Because the color blends so naturally and fades gradually, there is never a noticeable regrowth area.

You can get it in powder form. Then mix it with some warm tea water (Lipton or any tea leaves) and break on egg in - for easy application, protein and shine. Mix it to a paste and apply on slightly damp hair. Leave it on till it dries off about 1 hour. Since it can get a bit flacky, i would suggest that you wear a shower cap.

Then simply wash it off. you are done, you'll get a a very natural and rich color - homemade!

A Salon will charge you more.Have a look at your local Hairdressers(Barbers) and see how popular it is.The more the customers of your age,the better the hairdresser.Younger Barbers are up to ';scratch'; with todays' hairstyles and won't cost you an arm and a leg.Good luck with both the hair and the marriage.I am sure your bride will think that you are ';spiffin';.As a guy, should I go to a salon or a barber?
go to someone who knows your hair
Barbers are not stylists, they cut the hair %26amp; that's it. If it's a nice spikey style you want, then pay the extra %26amp; go to a salon.

I WOULD WANT MY HUSBAND TO GO TO THE BARBER THEY CUTS MENS HAIR ALL DAY LONG NO FUNKY HAIR STYLES
A barber generally only knows 2 haircuts..... short and buzzed. If you want something with a little style, try a salon instead. Barbers tend to be old fashsioned....
doesn't matter, its so hard to find someone that will cut your hair the way you like it, once you find that person don't let him/her go....

if it's a decent to good one i would normally tip $5-10 this depends on the person though!!How much do you tip at the nail salon just for a pedicure?
First of all, it does depend on whether you love the way they did your nails, or if you think they are just ok. Sometimes, they have information about the nail salon including what they usually except for tips. No matter what the amount, it's still good to give them something.
No more than $5 depending on the service.
    $5.00 is good...
I would tip based on if I liked the work.

It is not the customer's job to pay the worker at the salon.

    Anywhere between 5 - 20%.
between 3-5 dollars is fine. it really depends on if they did a good job and were polite and everything to you....
depends on how much i spend, but usually about 4 bucks!
Maybe about 3-5 dollars depending on how they did
You usually tip about 10-15% of the cost depending on how good of a job was done. If you got a more complicated job of painting done, than I would tip 15%.
    5$

i want the one that has volume and spikes on top and then is like long and thin looking on botttomWhat do ask for at the hair salon if you want an emo haircut?
Get a picture, and print it.

Show it to the hair dresser and ask them to do it like that

and explain if you want any changes.

Your are definitely going to have to tell them that you want fringe.

A picture is always better then explaining.

To get volume, you gave to do it yourself. They will give

you layers and you have to tease your hair.

Go on youtube and search ';Scene hair tutorial';.

It will show you how to style it. You will need a Brush, comb, and tones of hair spray. You will have to straighten it before you style the ';scene'; part of it.

    I hope I helped.

Can you help me with my question about the hair?

Thanks. What do ask for at the hair salon if you want an emo haircut?
Tell the hair dress to ';Texturize'; the top. And if you want to spike it you'll need short layers in the back, and longer in the front,

Tell her to razor the bottom to thin it out.

Most pictures you see are extensions at the bottom.

    Hope that helped!

Ohh, and you'll have to tease the short layers to get that spike look.
Definitely bring in a few pictures of what you want. You are taking a big risk if you just assume the hairdresser will know what you are talking about since its a non-traditional hairstyle.

No, it will make her condition worse
Why don't you cure yourself of Lupus first. Go to herbdoc.com and check out their products. If hundreds of thousands of people can cure themselves of every disease known including Lupus, I don't see why you can't do it too.

How do you get a small hair salon to grow?

ADVERTISE!! And also, word of mouth is great. Do a special for your current clients, give them a business card that says, refer a friend and get 50% off your next cut. The friend brings in the card with your clients name and now you have a new client. Everyone loves a great haircut for 50% off and it helps your business grow.

Also, check with the local highschools and see if they have a schools newspaper where you can put an ad...and put something like, 10%off with your student ID.

How do you open your own tanning salon?

My suggestion is not to open a new tanning salon, but to buy an existing one. I have almost done this twice--both times they had functional equipment and existing customer bases available for less than I could open a new one for.

What happened with both of those was the owner was tired of ';being there all the time'; so it didn't really work for me as a ';passive business'; because I didn't want to run it, just own it. It could have worked once it was free and clear, but after the cost of financing it would have been difficult. How do you open your own tanning salon?

How much does it cost to get long hair died at an ulta salon?

fifty but ulta salons aren't goodHow much does it cost to get long hair died at an ulta salon?
You want your hair ';colored'; %26amp; you don't want it to ';die.'; Call the salon %26amp; ask them what the cost is, based on the length of your hair. It will cost more but it's well worth it. After the color is applied, remember to keep it conditioned %26amp; get the ends trimmed every six weeks. When your hair grows out %26amp; you're ready for a ';retouch'; of color, you do not need to have the color pulled through to the ends each time. I would suggest that you have that done every two/three times you get your hair ';retouched with color. That way, your hair will not dry out so badly. How much does it cost to get long hair died at an ulta salon?
    55-65 dollars.

depends on what you want though.
    Too much to bother.
Long hair usually costs at least $100.00
Plan on a couple hundred dollars. Long hair is always more expensive than short or mid-length hair.

I must mention that what WE think of as short or mid-length is usually thought of as long to the stylist.

With long hair it is absolutely worth the cost.

Do Not f#$%26amp;ck w/ your hair. Pay for a professional to get the results you desire.

I am NOT a stylist, just a woman that has committed every hair--error possible.

Should I go to a tanning salon before I head to the beach?

im going to the beach this weekend and have no tan at all...should i go to a tanning bed 1st or just go to the beach?

ThAnKsShould I go to a tanning salon before I head to the beach?
You should tan before you go, but DON'T USE A TANNING BED! I know that you've probably heard this before, but like, yeah, it's true that you can skin cancer. You can also get leathery skin, wrinkles, and lots of moles by using a tanning bed. Self-tanners are cheaper and they all gives you nice glows. They are also healthier for your skin.

Try a self-tanner by Model Co. at Sephora or one by Banana Boat. Victoria's Secret has an amazing one in the Bare Bronze collection.Should I go to a tanning salon before I head to the beach?
Save yourself and use fake tanner and then lots of sunblock at the beach. I had malignant melonoma 10 years ago and trust me, being tan is not as important as being alive!
A tanning bed tan is VERY fake looking.

Just go to the beach as you are. You aren't going to be alone with pale skin.

    ALWAYS wear sunscreen!
dont go in a tanning bed- try a mystic tan instead! and when you go to the beach, wear SPF 50. A tan is not worth getting cancer
Just go ahead and go to the beach dont worry about that rubbery tanning bed look. Im sure u look good just the way u are now
I say go to the tanning salon a couple of times and then when u get to the color u want then when it starts to fade go lay out in the sun
nah i'd just go to the beach.. one time in a tanning bed probably won't make that much of a difference unless you get burnt. and you don't want to already be burnt when you go to the beach because that feels terrible!
if u tan easy dont but if u have trouble than go
Just tan in the back yard its cheaper and you're going to the beach anyway so why bother thats the whole point.
I tan, and I have for the last 5 years. (ahhhh, oh no) and I have not gotten a sunburn since. Its called a base tan, and yes it does help you. But be sure to go at the tanning gradual. If your only planning on going once, then it will do nothing for you. I would suggest going at least two weeks, and building up your tan. If you cant do that at least wear a sunscreen with a little tanning lotion in it to the beach.
No thats the most retarded thing ive heard
I really don't get that whole ';Gotta' Be Tan'; thing.

What's wrong with being pale, I ask you?

It's much better than getting Skin Cancer.
yes you should if you want to look sexy
just go to the beach, you dont want to take a chance of getting skin cancer,my aunt has it from tanning %26amp; thats why I just enjoy what I have.
NO! wait to go to the beach. The fake tans look HORRIBLE!! Take it from me, I accidentally used this thing to make me tan - even though I didn't know it would do that - and it just turned my skin orange, not tan! Don't do it!!!!!!

I started working in a different salon and I do awesome hair I just need people in my chair. What can I do?

umm...be really friendly to everyone you meet, walking to the door to the salon from your car. start up convos, and give ppl advice as you walk there. then they will remeber how friendly you are, and they might recommend you to their friend. Tip, ALWAYS introduce your name first, so they wont forget it. And be a little pushy (but in a nice way) in the salon and recommed people advice 4 hair styles, and then say well I'll show you, and then they might let you cut it. Now you have a new customer!!!! :) Good luck

I'm pale but I have the ability to tan, will 1 tanning salon trip be noticable?

As the title says, I get some tan in the summer but it goes very fast when winter comes around. I have brown hair and some freckles. I'm very pale at the moment as it is march and I have not seen sun since the summer..My question is will I get a noticable tan from 1 visit to the salon?I'm pale but I have the ability to tan, will 1 tanning salon trip be noticable?
I work in a tanning salon, and I see that most girls who are pale wont notice a difference until like 5 or 6 sessionsI'm pale but I have the ability to tan, will 1 tanning salon trip be noticable?
Most likely not, but it depends on what bed you are using.

My suggestion (if you want immediate color) is to do a California Cocktail, a high pressure and then a spray tan. The high pressure bed is going to open your pores, so that the spray solution will go on deep and evenly. It will also help your spray tan last up to two weeks.

If you don't want to spray, then I would suggest doing 5-6 sessions in a medium pressure bed then a high pressure.
ya it would be obvious, especailly since it is march and it hasnt been too sunny. If all of a sudden you go from pale to tan it would be pretty noticable.

Not to sound like an old lady, but artificial tan is very very bad for you.
if you go lay in the tanning bed just one time it will be unnoticeable. you would have to go for at least a month to start to change.

  • Do you notice any difference with salon brands vs. store brands of hair products?

Just wondering..I have used both over the years, and quite honestly dont notice a huge difference between the more expensive salon only brands and the less expensive store brands (Loreal, etc.)

Any thoughts, or good brands to try..mostly looking for shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, and mousse.Do you notice any difference with salon brands vs. store brands of hair products?
Pantene ROCKS. I love it. I have used goldwell, joico and a few other salon brands and I think out of them all pantene is the best for my hair, but hairdressers say it is bad and wrecks your hair from the inside out and coats it with silicone which is why it feels so nice and silky. Anyway I use pantene as much as possible.

But you know what sucks, a guy will use any old shampoo ($2) and not condition and they have fantastic hair and I use all kinds of stuff and I still have to be careful of my hair goes all frizzy.Do you notice any difference with salon brands vs. store brands of hair products?
The only place where I have noticed any difference is when it comes to the protector you use on your hair when you straighten it. The chi brand doesn't leave your hair as greasy looking...just nice and shiny.

Anyways, I LOVE Tressemme products, especially the hairspray. It goes on nice and light, but holds really well. It's really important for a hairspray to go on light for me, because a lot of the brands will make my hair curl up when I spray it on. I also like the Pantene and John Freida shampoos and conditioners when it comes to protecting colored hair from fading. They are the only brands I have found that will keep my hair red. With other shampoos, it ends up orange.
Honestly, I have never really noticed alot of difference. Sometimes the expensive salon ones tend to smell better or leave a longer lasting good smell in hair - if that makes sense. I hardly ever use the expensive ones, unless I have been at a salon and they use it on me.

I nomally just buy Suave. I like the ones that have on them ';compare to (insert big brand name)';. Occasionally I will get Pantene if I wanna splurge a little. I buy whatever conditioner smells the best. I don't necessarily have to have them matching.

As for hairspray. I buy whatever is unscented. Usually Suave or White Rain.

I don't use Mousse. So not sure on that one.
Honestly, my old roomie was a hair snob and I would use her stuff on occasion to see what I was missing out on. Most of it I thought made my hair limp and dull. There are several I like and I try to switch every few months because it is like my hair builds up an immunity to one. I rotate between Pantene Pro V, Brilliant Brunette, and Garnier Fructis.

Hairspray I use Pantene or Finess. I don't use mousse.
    dove energize shampoo and conditioner

say yes to carrots shampoo and conditioner

these are products that you can get at any drugstore or market they are my two tried and true and they work amazing I also use head and sholders cooling at least once a week!

The only difference I notice in my hair is when my stylist does it of course she does it way better than me!
Jili take it from me..over the years I have tried practically Every hair care product known to man...from the cheapest to the most expensive and I found that the very best is Pantene Products, the whole line...my hair looks and feels great with this line from what I'm told the ingredient Panthenol seems to work on pretty much any type of hair! I like it.
I like Matrix Sleek Looks. You have to buy it from a salon, but it isn't too pricey. But I also have naturally curly hair that I straighten almost daily...so I do a lot of damage to it. If you're easy on your hair I'm sure a good drug store clarifying shampoo and deep conditioner would cut it.
Sorry Walt, your testicles have just been revoked.

Suave all the way for me. When I get home I'll tell you what my wife uses.

Walt, you have redeemed yourself, as your comments remind me back to a time when I had a very hot young lady who cut my hair. She had to lean over me, and stick certain things right in my face while she worked.

    Good times.

Also, my hair doesn't seem to need much special attention, dish soap would probably be fine for it!
Into a little aromatherapy to Jil ?

Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint shampoo and conditioner.

Good stuff. A little goes a long way and it does an ';excellent'; job.

    PLUS...it smells good too !

I know... a straight guy talking about hair...don't say it.

ADAM: Suave is gay. You might as well use dishwasher soap.

Afterall if it was good enough for this really hot stylist I knew...

damn...I miss her. Free cuts tied down to a dining room chair.

Aveda works really well to but that stuff is SPENDY.
Pantene Pro-V is my best friend when it comes to shampoo %26amp; conditioner. I just love how my hair feels after using it...so soft! As for hair spray, I just use Suave. Pretty cheap but works great and has a nice smell.
Honestly, not a dang difference at all. I even use plain old olive oil as a deep conditioner because it works BETTER then all those fancy hot oil treatments.

I usually buy brands like Pantene or Herbal Essences.
It all depends on your hair type.

Unless you have course, dry, and/or processed hair, store brands are usually sufficient.
no big difference in my opinion. im using the equivalent to garnier fructose and its great.
I adore tressme and it is soooo affordable. mouse and other stuff you should get salon. except for mouse, herbal essences.
I only use the cheap store brands and they keep my hair looking sexy.
I wash my hair with baking soda. True story. It's the best.

Where is a really excellent hair salon in Naperville, IL?

I'm thinking about going from brunette to blonde and I'm going to need a really good stylist who understands and is good at their job and willing to be there for all the stages of switching colors. Any suggestions would be great!! Please!!!Where is a really excellent hair salon in Naperville, IL?
    Elegante Salons %26amp; Day Spas

I just went to the tanning salon for the first time. How long should I wait to shower after tanning?

i suggest about 1-3 hours max...the longer you can go without showering right after, the better ur tan will turn out...showering removes the oils in ur skin that bring out the pigmentation...therefore waiting until the pigment has set is the best..usually taakes anywhere from 1-3 hours hunI just went to the tanning salon for the first time. How long should I wait to shower after tanning?
I like an hour myself it seems to bring out the tan beterI just went to the tanning salon for the first time. How long should I wait to shower after tanning?
about an hour and i use a loofa b/c it gets rid of all the dead skin and if you have dry patches that are tanned they always turn out darker for me so i usually scrub the dry patches with my loofa and it gets all evened out

How much would it be to get zebra print nails done at a salon?

I can do it with real polish for like 15. :)How much would it be to get zebra print nails done at a salon?
I do my own - cheaper!
I'll do it with a sharpie for two bucks.

How do you paint your nails without painting your finger as well?I don't want to go to a beauty salon...?

I was always wondering how do people paint their nails without ';painting anything else';.For me it never worked out,but I don't want to go to a beauty salon to get the job done.Is there any way to learn how to color your nails well at home? How do you paint your nails without painting your finger as well?I don't want to go to a beauty salon...?
LOL This is a great question! I am always painting my finger along with my fingernails as well, and I feel like such a loser. Surely if other women can do it correctly, why am I making such a mess of my finger nails?

I rarely ever bother with painting my finger nails, though, so I think my mistakes are due to two reasons:

First, even when I wanted to do it, I would rush through it, because I kind of felt like I was wasting my time. This is not something you can rush through, though. If you're going to do it, take the time to do it as accurately as possible. So set aside more time for painting your nails.. not just for the actual painting of your nails, but for letting them dry too.

Secondly, I believe it takes practice, as with anything else.

In the meanwhile, keep a wet papertowel (or something similar) handy so that when you mess up, you can wipe it off rightaway.

Come to think of it, maybe those women who have perfectly painted nails have had to wipe off mistakes too, and you would never know it. :-)How do you paint your nails without painting your finger as well?I don't want to go to a beauty salon...?
I know this had been resolved but if you put vaseline just on your skin around your nail then paint them any nail polish you get on the skin will just wipe off. Tried and true.

Look at the ingredients. They are very similar. The salon products are sold by people who make a commission off of each sale so they have to be more expensive. But the hairdresser is knowledgeable about YOUR special needs so it may be worth the couple of bucksIs there really a difference between drug store shampoo/conditioner, and professional salon brands?
I really don't see the difference in shampoo because inexpensive and salon brands still contain sodium laurel sulfate, which can be drying to your skin and hair. Conditioners, however, I do like the salon brands because they contain more vitamins and aloe vera and they de-tangle your hair very well.

how about you go to your local college, 'cos mine have a hairdressing salon and a haircut and a blowdry is only like five pounds or just a cut is something like three pound! and they do great haircuts, because they know what cuts suit certain people! :) ps. hope i helped!
look around the edge of town, but not too far out so its the tatty areas. cos in the 'middle sections' they have some nice, inexpensive places. :)
wtf is up with your username thingy?

I need a GOOD hair salon in central FL?

I cant seem to find a good hair salon in or around Orlando. Nothing like Hair Cuttery or Great Clips, something professional. Any good reviews or recommendations?I need a GOOD hair salon in central FL?
Try The Tabloid Salon.....It's run by a man named Tom Castilgia, and he's the best! I used to live in Orlando, and have known Tom for quite a few years. He does great things, on men or women's hair. I know that he has one or two stylists working for him now, but ask for him. His prices are pretty reasonable, as well. The salon is in the College Park area, off Edgewater Drive. Tell Tom that Jody and Paul sent you, and say hi!I need a GOOD hair salon in central FL?

Getting false eyelashes in a salon?

I've been interested in doing this, just for fun.

Do you have to go to a specific type of salon or is it something salons do nowadays?

Will it affect your natural eyelashes in any way -- like make them to fall out if the false eyelashes fall out?

Generally, how much does it cost and how long does it last?

Getting false eyelashes in a salon?
I wouldn't do it, I got them before, and they look really good, but after a couple days they really irritated my eyes, to the point that I wanted them off, also they come off in clumps, if you don't go get them refilled or removed , they look nasty, its alot of maintenance, cost of anywhere from $60-$200+Getting false eyelashes in a salon?
I agree with the person above. The really aren't worth the trouble. You dry out your eyelashes by using them because of the glue and then trying to get them off is a pain in the butt. Try using Maybelline XXL regular or the curling one. They are AWESOME!. They are a two in one. They have the mascara but also a primer which volumizes your lashes so they are fuller and longer. I have been using it for almost seven years and i have not seen a mascara yet better than it. Try it and if you don't like it, then try falsies. Falsies though really are a hassle.

Is there a difference between getting your hair dyed in a salon and dyeing it at home?

Is it worth going to a salon for? Why?

(P.s: I'm talking about blonde to dark brown)

Thanks for all your answers!~Is there a difference between getting your hair dyed in a salon and dyeing it at home?
Yes, the store brands do a lot of damage. Whereas the salon brands (professional) don't do as much and if you are worried, your stylist can do a conditioning treatment before hand. A stylist will also know which brand is best for your hair type. They will also know what color or colors to use for your coloring. I used to do my own and after a while my hair was just brittle and didn't take the coloring that well. Even though I did tons of at home deep conditioning. I would pay to get it done professionally. If the color doesn't turn out right they can fix it but doing it yourself and it comes out wrong you'll end up at a salon to fix it anyways. Is there a difference between getting your hair dyed in a salon and dyeing it at home?
It's better to go to the salon, they have higher quality products, can mix certain colors to give you exactly what you want, %26amp; are educated about color. You should always go into the salon when going from dark to light. Going from light to dark, is not as risky, so you could try it at home. And whenever going darker you should always use semi or demi permanent. But pick a color only 2 shades darker than your light color - blonde hair can pull color darker than what it looks on the box. There are differences between salon color %26amp; box color, it's too long to explain, %26amp; you may not understand it all, but overall, salon colors are less damaging on your hair, there's have more control with them, %26amp; you usually get the right results. Box colors are unpredictable.
I think you should most defiantly go to a salon for getting your hair colored. I've seen so many at home disasters, and I know that it may be a little expensive, but it is worth it in the end. A salon is a professional, and they know what colors to use on your hair. You, on the other hand, are not, and might grab the wrong color for your hair. It could turn orange, or tawny. You may also have different colored roots then the tips. I strongly suggest you go to a salon. If you chose to do it yourself and mess up, you will end up spending more money to fix it.
Absolutely there is ! Do NOT dye your hair at home, especially not with such a drastic change. I dyed my hair once and only once. My hair is naturally verrrryyy dark, nearly black...and I dyed it ';black cherry'; once, it was supposed to still be my dark color mixed in with some Burgundy highlights. Unfortunately, since it was a boxed hair dye, it faded to an orangish-reddish-purplish color. It looked ridiculous. Leave it to the professionals, they know your exact shade and hair type, what dyes to use and how much to use. It will also last a lot longer and not fade. It's definitely worth the price you pay.
Yes there is a difference. You get what you pay for. A stylist can get your entire head and do it right. They can professionally mix and apply the color and make sure it is even. Home kits are good for touch ups but the color is pre-mixed and you may not reach your whole head of hair evenly and it could come out streaky. Hair color is one thing I suck up and pay the salon to do because nothing sucks worse than doing it yourself to save money and time and then having to go to the salon to have your job fixed.
in my opinion ABSOLUTELY! a salon color will not only last longer but it will be a richer more dimensional color.color chemistry is much more then just putting brown over blonde a stylist will mix the perfect tone to make the color enhance your features(a good stylist)

.....if you ever noticed too ';box color'; is meant for grey hair coverage just food for thought
Going to a salon will guarantee good results.

At home you could screw up and it could look blotchy or discolored.

I think it's worth it to go to the salon.
No, not if you mean dyeing your hair with products from a place like Sally Beauty. But if you mean a box color then yes- the products used at salons are muh higher quality and do not damage your hair as much.
if u know what you are doing at home then do it yourself otherwise go to a salon

What % should you tip if you use the owner of a salon?

How old do you have to be to tan in a salon?

because, i thought you had to be 16, but if your mom, or gardiean er whatever signs something can't you earlier? How old do you have to be to tan in a salon?
Well I first went tanning when I was twelve and there was no parental consent thing. It kinda depends where you go; desert sun: never asked, but pink coconut wouldn't let me tan. I'm sure you'll be fine, they most likely won't deny you. Have fun:)How old do you have to be to tan in a salon?
It all depends on the Salon;s policies.. sometimes it's 13-14 or even 21... but usually its around 15 so you should be set to get a tan..... and your right aboout the signing agreement.
with parent consent you can go at age 14

  • How do i get dreadlocks? where can i go a hair salon or what?

please if you can help and be as specific as you can!

thank you ver much. How do i get dreadlocks? where can i go a hair salon or what?
All you do is stop brushing your hair. You must still wash it regularly using a shampoo that leaves no residue. If you want to you could backcomb sections of your hair to get them started, but never use wax or other products as is near impossible to remove and can lead to mould among other things. It takes a long time for dreads to form properly. Expect it to be at least 6 months before your hair even begins to look dreaded.

I've been dreading my hair for about 3 months and this is the best resource I've found on the net.How do i get dreadlocks? where can i go a hair salon or what?
You have to put wax all throughout your hair, and then put it in braids that are the size you want each dread and then use a comb to tease each braid (brush UPWARDS from the bottom of the braid). That's what I've heard. Or don't wash it or brush it and let it go to hell and it'll look like dreads.

    This is more detailed..

you could do it yourself if you want to. there's information all over the internet how.

from what i know, it's sort of a long process of starting out and then getting the finished thing.
Don;t wash your hair, don't brush it. Just forget that hair is on top of your head. Dreads are really dirty. Is that how you want your hair to look!
You just don't brush or wash your hair.

What exactly are those Asian ladies talking about at the nail salon?!?

Of course most of us who have experiences going to the salon know that the women there (usually Asian, not saying always, just usually) always talk to each other in their own language. They'll usually ask personal questions, then they will talk to each other, then ask another question, and they talk to each other again. Does any one know exactly what they are saying? Are they talking crap about the customers as I suspect they do?What exactly are those Asian ladies talking about at the nail salon?!?
I've wondered that also. Your post reminds me of the link I attached. For me, I've had onr particular lady compliment my breast size and even ask if I had implants. I thought that was so bizarre, asking a total stranger about her breasts. And then she tells me to get a size like mine, it would be about 5K.

You're right, though. They ask personal questions, and then they always talk to their neighbor in their language. It's an experience, I'll tell you. And they always try to upsell you on the mud. What exactly are those Asian ladies talking about at the nail salon?!?
Sometimes I wish I could bring in someone that understood what they were saying, but then I am going to be learning Spanish soon. So I will just take in a friend from language classes and talk Spanish about the ladies to each other. (I'll be sure to ask them personal questions first..after they have done my nails :p )
yea, they're talking about YOUR face.

There. Now you have the proof to confront them. Don't worry you won't look like an idiot. We're Americans, they expect it from us. Go ahead and question them about your suspicions.

Don't even question them. Just tell them to stop talking about your face. When they look shocked and quiet down its only because they feel guilty about doing it in the first place.
