All you do is stop brushing your hair. You must still wash it regularly using a shampoo that leaves no residue. If you want to you could backcomb sections of your hair to get them started, but never use wax or other products as is near impossible to remove and can lead to mould among other things. It takes a long time for dreads to form properly. Expect it to be at least 6 months before your hair even begins to look dreaded.

You have to put wax all throughout your hair, and then put it in braids that are the size you want each dread and then use a comb to tease each braid (brush UPWARDS from the bottom of the braid). That's what I've heard. Or don't wash it or brush it and let it go to hell and it'll look like dreads.

from what i know, it's sort of a long process of starting out and then getting the finished thing.
Don;t wash your hair, don't brush it. Just forget that hair is on top of your head. Dreads are really dirty. Is that how you want your hair to look!
You just don't brush or wash your hair.
