21yrs & want to start a hairdressing apprenticeship. What do I write to Salons? Am I too Old?

I left school at 17 %26amp; have worked in Administration %26amp; little in childcare since.. I am really keen to get a hairdressing apprenticeship. I love hair %26amp; makeup; I recently did a course in Bridal, photographic %26amp; glamour makeup.. I am trying to write a cover letter to send to local salons, but am having trouble promoting myself, as I have just turned 21 and most people applying for an apprenticeship are under 18 and can be paid a lot less! any Ideas?21yrs %26amp; want to start a hairdressing apprenticeship. What do I write to Salons? Am I too Old?
I don't think you're too old and I would think being a little older you would be a little more mature and dedicated....The only problem is that most salons don't do apprenticeships because it takes a lot of time for the owner or whoever you are under. They really have to want to be a teacher and there are so many rules and regulations for them. If you know of salons that do this, then promote yourself by explaining those attributes above. I didn't even realize that they paid you to learn, which is different than a licensed assistant.

Good luck....I'm just not that familiar with that program.
