Is it true you cant be any older than 16 to start work in the ''Toni&Guy'; hair dressing salons?

a friend of mine who i have just recently met happens to work in the well known hair salon ''Toni%26amp;Guy';, i was asking him questions such as how long hes been working there, does he enjoy it! and he told me that as soon as he finished school he went to work there, and he said they only take pepole who are 16, no older so he said he was lucky he started when he did, he is now 22! they also only take people who are very smartly dressed, this i can understand as it has a big reputation to live up to, but im baffled about this age thing, why 16? im sure thats a some sort of age discrimination, or do you think he was sayin it to put me off as i am 18, peraps he thought my questions were because i wanted to work there? any adviceIs it true you cant be any older than 16 to start work in the ''Toni%26amp;Guy'; hair dressing salons?
Um this is very interesting because i was planning to go to 'tonyandguy' acadamy in manchester or sheffield when i leave school? but they do interviews the year before you leave school then take so many people on to do their NVQ course as a trainee in one of their salons? but i can understand the smartly dressed bit i meen it has a repuatation and its expensive so people expect the best. Also you have to be really passionate about hair and aswell.they like you fresh from when you've just left school because they like to train you their way and if you've had previous experiance in another salon they will have to retrain you.Why was you intrested in working in there?

hope this is some help to you

if they only 16 year olds get taken in the place wouldn't be very good because you need to be trained first. people wouldn't pay top money to have there hair cut by trainees, it is also illegal to use age discrimination. if it was true they would be punished and shut down. i think he is telling you a load of rubbish.
Sounds like he is trying to put you off for some reason. Maybe he doesn't want you to work there? Most jobs start at 18, the whole 16 thing is bollocks. Places prefer people with experience. Go in and ask for application form and get some smart clothes for an interview. Good luck.
That would be age discrimination
There is only one way to find out. Call the salon and ask how old you have to be to work there.
horse crap
Hiya i used to work for 'SAKS' the other big hair and beauty company and although there is no age when you can start there they do prefer you to be younger (16) that way you are starting at the bottom as a junior and working your way up to a full stylist, they can train you their way and you have no outside influences in your styling. Also what 21+ year old is seriously going to go into a salon and wash hair and sweep up for a living getting paid pennies...?

You have to be impeccably dressed in these places as like you say they have a reputation and also you can't be a smelly scruffy person when working with customers in this industry.

The starting wages are rubbish too might i add haha.

Hairdressing takes a lot of dedication and hard work, you work such long hours and have to be permanently happy. You will also need to find a salon who is willing to pay for your 'kit' too. Saks don't or didn't when i was there and my scissors alone were 拢250 which is cheap.

Good luck if you decide to follow this career, when you are a full stylist then the big bucks start rolling in...
